There are new single and multiple entity combination drugs currently available and being prescribed to treat the Hep C virus, some of them have two or three different active components in a single pill. Below a brief explanation that will help you to understand the individual generic components found in these new and well-known branded drugs and which pharmaceutical company produces them.

Pegylated Interferon Alfa drugs:

Interferon is a protein that is a natural booster of the human immune system, helping the body´s defense to identify and react against viruses and bacteria. There are three different types of Interferon Alfa, Beta, and Gama. Interferon Alfa is commonly used for the treatment of the Hep C and some types of cancers.

Commercial names:

Peg-Intron: Generic name is peginterferon alfa 2b and is manufactured by Merck.

Pegasys: Generic name peginterferon alfa 2a and is manufactured by Genentech

Nucleoside Analogs Drugs (Ribavirin):

The oral use ribavirin is not effective alone to treat Hep C, nonetheless scientists have demonstrated that their use in together in combination with subcutaneous pegylated interferon greatly improves the rate of success in the treatment of Hepatitis C.:

NS 3/4A Protease Inhibitors:

The protease inhibitors block a protein that plays an important role in Hepatitis C Virus replication: They bind to the viral protease, which is responsible for processing viral proteins.

Commercial names:

Olysio (Galexos in some markets): Generic is name Simeprevir and is made by Janssen and Medivir AB

Nucleoside and Nucleotide NS5B Polymerase Inhibitors

The NS5B polymerase plays a role in creating copies of the RNA genomes (Ribonucleic acid). These inhibitor drugs block these proteins.

Commercial names:

Sovaldi: Generic name is Sofosbuvir and is made by Gilead Sciences

NS5A Inhibitors

Commercial name:

Daklinza: Generic name is daclatasvir and is made by Bristol Meyer Squibb

Combination drugs:

Harvoni: Combination of sofosbuvir and ledipasvir and is made by Gilead Sciences

Viekira: Combination of ombitasvir, paritaprevir, ritonavir, and dasabuvir and is made by Abbvie

Technivie: Combination of ombitasvir, paritaprevir, and ritonavir

and is made by Abbvie
